Max Bronski

Naked Angels

“Bronski’s novels are full-blooded crime writing that transcends its regional setting and finds favour everywhere.” (sz-krimi.de)

Hitler seen in Munich! The headline is genuine. Its carnival time, so it could be a prank, though one in very poor taste. The accompanying picture is a grainy snapshot of his alleged visit to Munichs Schlachthof quarter., Gossec, the grumpy bric-a-brac dealer with the unerring sense of justice, has a point to make. After a heated discussion fuelled by countless beers, he wants to prove to his friend Julius that Munich is as susceptible as ever to the Führer. So he digs around in his store of vintage clothes, dresses up and heads off. Its a crazy idea with dire and dangerous consequences. He encounters a lodge of Neo-Nazis and only just manages to escape them. The next day he reads that his actions have been attributed to a well-known cabaret artist and that the Neo-Nazis have sworn retribution. Guilt-ridden, Gossec arranges to meet the artist to explain. The latter is amused by the whole thing and has no objection to being identified with Gossecs actions. But a few days later he calls Gossec to say he is now apparently being threatened. And then he is dead. And Gossec is to be found unconscious in the mans apartment.
